Halftees: I Can’t Live Without Them! – A Guest Post

Looking for another way to stretch your wardrobe, or to help make some of your clothing more modest? Julia is our guest poster today, talking all about her favorite way to handle this issue :-)

Halftees…Why I can’t Live Without Them

Ladies this post is for you! Guys please share this with all of the women and young girls in your life. No more do you have to worry about your outfit being too low cut, too hot with layers, being able to nurse, or lots of bunching around your midsection, leaving you look like you are always 2 months pregnant. I want to tell you all about my new love, Halftees.

If you know me or have been reading my What I Wore Sunday posts I have probably told you about Halftees. I blogged about them here before I even bought one, and now that I own at least 8, I wanted to share more about my new love and give an “after” review.

While shopping with a friend at Goodwill a few months back, I kept saying, pair it with a Halftee and you are good to go. She probably thought I was crazy, but I was serious. Now you might laugh because this might seem like a glorified dickie or sports bra, but you know what? It rocks and it is way better than those little triangles of fabric that you try to clip to your bra (trust me I have tried it).

I have also tried to make my own little half tee out of old tank tops and shirts but when I sew the seam at the bottom where I cut it, you can always see that through the shirt…not the Halftee. The bottom of the shirts have a wide band and that hugs your body so you do not see a seam. Also they do not have a tag in them so they are reversible. One side has a lower neckline and the other side has a slightly higher neckline so you can pick which side you would like to wear.

Let’s talk about the ways that I have used them and think you would love to use them too.

1) Extending the season of your clothing: I bought some turtlenecks and have used them under dresses and short sleeved tops to extend the outfits from summer to fall and winter. This is great because it adds arm length to dresses but not the added bulk around the waist where you want to appear the thinnest.

I have always loved this sweater top but always had to wear something under in the fall and was always so hot! In this image I am wearing a turtleneck Halftee to help with coverage and not get over heated.

2) Making your clothing more modest: It seems like a lot of the dresses and shirts that I own are low scoop or v-neck and I just hate feeling like I have to constantly adjust my tops. I have used both the boyfriend cut and the basic cut under shirts to help me feel more secure when walking out of the house. You know sometimes when you bend over and you realize everyone can see straight down your shirt? Well this helps cover you up a bit more. I even used the basic Halftee under short sleeved shirts this summer and it was so much cooler than wearing a full length tank top. Not only that but I find sometimes tank tops slide down sometimes even below the shirt neckline and end up not helping my cause but just another hot layer.

Here is a picture of me wearing a cute maternity top, I liked this top but the straps kept falling down, but not with the boyfriend style Halftee under it.

3) Perfect for Pregnancy: I bought so many nursing tanks and just wore longer tanks during my first pregnancy to help with those v-neck and low cut maternity shirts (why are they all like that?!) but it seemed as if half way through the day the tank would ride up above my belly and I would have to pull it down a million times a day. So frustrating. The Halftees stay in place and I can wear the same one before, during, and after pregnancy so no need to buy special shirts for different times of life. There is no riding up and no bunching around your middle creating wrinkles and more bulk to your ever expanding middle. I always feel like I am burning up when pregnant so this really helped keep me cool even though I had another layer on.

In this image a friend of mine and I are both pregnant, and this maternity shirt always creeps down, so I put the basic Halftee under it. I was comfortable with how the shirt hit, and not too much around the belly area.

4) Makes any shirt into a breastfeeding shirt: Ok maybe it doesn’t make any shirt into a breastfeeding shirt but I have found myself pulling down low cut non-breastfeeding specific shirt and my Halftee up in order to feed my newborn. The bottom of the Halftee has this wide band that is not tight but fits to your body so when that is pulled up over your chest it stays in place, instead of constantly falling down into baby’s face like a tank might.

This is one of my favorite dresses, the cross over v-neck is perfect for breastfeeding but I can’t swing it without a shirt or tank under it. The basic Halftee is perfect, just move the dress over and lift the tee up and you are good to go.

There are probably many more reasons to want to own one, like wearing them to add some funky layers to your outfits, the lace ones they have would be perfect for that. I think they are perfect for the budding young lady and they have a girls line just for that purpose.

They are a bit pricey for a half of a tee shirt but when I think about all of the times I have worn mine I think it is totally worth it. They also have a clearance section at the bottom of their website, they often post sales on Facebook, and they have free shipping on orders over $100.

I hope you enjoyed this little review, and go out and buy yourself one!

Headshot1 Hi, I am Julia from Designer Jules. I am a Catholic, Interior Designer by trade, and now a stay at home mom of two boys; “bee” is 2 and “squirrel” is 4 months. I started my little sewing/craft business a few years ago when a friend of mine had her baby and I told her I would make a breastfeeding cover. That is where it started and it has just progressed from there. I love sewing and creating custom items for friends and clients.

I am in no way part of Halftee and I have never received anything from the company. I just love them so much that I really want everyone to know about them.

Comments

  1. I recently discovered the Halftee also (bought one from deborahandco) and I am in love. I want to buy every color and style. I have the same problem with layering and being too hot and these are the perfect solution.

  2. going to check it out now :)

  3. I recently became addicted to shells for the same reason! I love wearing them as undershirts with cap sleeves, but I’ve wondered if something like a Halftee might help at least with neckline coverage. I know what you mean about “half a shirt” being more expensive than a whole t-shirt, but the benefit is totally worth the cost.

  4. Definitely going to check these out as I always have similar issues with shirts.

  5. Hello – Thanks for sharing this nifty modesty-wear trick of fashion! I have such a problem with layers when the weather gets warmer and think this will be the perfect solution! After going to the Halftee sight, I noticed that the halftees they sell seem to be much lower of a scoop neck compared to the lovely pictures of yourself, modeled in this post. Is this just a discrepancy in the Halftee photography, or are you wearing a different style? Smaller size??? Thanks for the help!
